Homemade Rice Milk

When you have a child with allergies, some grocery items can add up quickly. Rice Milk can be made at home and it is SO simple and inexpensive.

What you need:

A Blender

3/4 cup of rice

1 tsp. kosher salt

4 cups water

2 Tbsp. honey (optional)

4 more cups of water

tea strainer or cheesecloth

In a 2 quart saucepan, add rice, 4 cups of water and kosher salt. Do not cook it, but let it simmer uncovered for about 40 minutes.

If you have a small blender, you will need to work in 2 batches, or half the recipe. If you have a large blender, you can make the full batch.

For this, recipe, I will assume that you have the smaller blender, as most people do.

Add 2 cups of water to your blender. Add one half of the rice mixture to the blender. add in 1 Tbsp of the honey. Blend. Repeat for the second half of the full batch. During the blending phase, you can also add in flavours, if you like to make vanilla milk, strawberry milk, chocolate milk, etc.... if your kids prefer more flavour.

Strain into a pitcher of your choice.

The kids will not notice a difference and this is really super easy and very inexpensive.

Cathy's Homemade Iced Tea

Homemade Ice Tea

  • 6-8 Teabags (no name brand regular tea works fine)
  • 3/4 can of Frozen Lemonade Concentrate
  • 1/2 cup of Sugar
  • 4 Litres of Water

Place teabags in a 4 litre jug.  Pour boiling water until the jug is approximately 1/4 full.  Let steep anywhere for 4 - 24 hours.  Remove teabags.  Pour or scoop 3/4 of a can of frozen lemonade concentrate, add 1/2 of water, fill jug to the top with cold water.  Stir and enjpy.

Everyone's tastes are different, some enjoy a sweeter tea with more sugar or less sweet using only 1/2 of concentrate.
