Here at momstown meals – we’re not chefs or bakers. We’re just moms who happen to cook for our families – a lot. But we’re not trained in any culinary school, just mom school. We like to pass along other mom recommended recipes, great ideas we’ve found and other food news to help make your life easier.


What makes a mom’s life easier when planning a birthday party? An easy cake. Which means one of two things – either a box cake mix or a call to the local bakery to order a sugary sheet cake with a plastic clown stuck on top. Cake of our dreams? Maybe not.

Last year when momstown held our Birthday Cake Contest (remember the Facebook albums??)– we were simply AMAZED at the talented mamas out there decorating first class cakes and taking serious pride in their cake making skills. There was serious Cake Boss influence in the inspired entries.

What did these cakes taste like? We don’t know!


Calling all cake recipes to the Great momstown Cake Contest! This year, we’re on the search for your best cake and/or icing RECIPES!  There’s nothing worse that biting into a beautiful cake that tastes dry or not worth the calories – so we want great baking tips, recipes that real moms can pull together and cake that will knock the socks off our kids in the taste department.


momstown meals wants YOUR from-scratch recipes to share with other mamas. The kind that other moms at the birthday take a bite of and then lean over to ask for your secret. We're looking for TASTY cakes, not just pretty cakes!


The recipe doesn’t have to be created by you (please quote the source of the recipe so momstown can give credit) but it needs to be your recommended recipe, tried, baked and tasted by you. In your entry, please add in a little story or suggestion you have about your cake. If you took a picture of the cake – send that to us too!

 

We will post all recipes on momstown meals – once you enter watch for your own recipe to be published! Everyone who enters a recipe will be entered to WIN the Top prize of $100 Loblaws Grocery Gift Card (to be used at any of its affiliate stores nationally). 2nd & 3rd prize winners will receive a $25 Gift Card. How’s that for encouraging more baking??

 

In addition, one of the top 3 winning cake recipes will be baked by our main momstown mama, Ann-Marie, for her daughter's August birthday party, and be featured in its very own birthday blog.


To enter – please email your name, full recipe and any pictures to meals@momstown.ca  by August 17th. By August 18th we’ll make our winning selections, notify the winners by email, and announce to everyone in our next round of September neighbourhood newsletters.
